Basic Skills Bind Your Web Business Competitive Advantage

What you know is a fundamental basis for your success and influence in the internet market place.

In order to make money on the internet, you have to provide a marketable product or service.  The best products or services you can sell will be those you know the most about.  So, ask yourself, what do you know and are good at?  Are there specific skills or talents you are proficient at?

Value added service or knowledge is what customers are seeking.  That is the prime reason they will visit your website,  because you offer them something they can’t get somewhere else.  This then becomes the beginning of your competitive advantage.

Evaluate Your Talents, Interests, Abilities, Strengths and Motivations

Write them down . . . record what you feel you have in any of these areas.  Be as specific as you can be.  You’re not boasting here, you’re identifying what you offer of significance and value to potential customers for your web business.  Do you have a special hobby?  What has been your profession that you could offer help with?

This process is equally adapted to both newbies and existing businesses.  What your looking for here are items where you excel.  When you excel at something your true skills and abilities tend to shine.  If you don’t excel in something, don’t embark on an internet business in that area. Excelling at something will be the core or foundation of your web business.

Some where in this evaluation process you will discover where your passion really lies.  You should recognize those issues where you get excited when thinking or working with them.  These skill set competencies are the things that make you “tick” when you are involved in them.  You get energized and enthusiastic about them.  This will be the adrenalin you need to push you forward in building your internet business.

Recognize and Distinguish Your Competitive Advantage

If you are marketing to your local area, your competition may be modest if any at all.  On the other hand, if you look to expand your market base beyond your local area using the world wide web, you will enter the realm of serious competition from around the world.  Sounds daunting doesn’t it, but the rewards in selling to the world could bring significant financial rewards.  In actuality competition can be a plus.

What you need to do in order to be successful is to focus on your core talents and skills.  You just need to be a little better than your competition–at least in some of the areas you are offering.  Some research will help you discover any strengths of your opposition.  You can then go to work using the power of your own skills and talents to influence your potential customers.  Leveraging your strengths will be the key to your success.  You will need to find ways of surpassing your competition in such things as price, selection or service–to name a few.

Improve and Nourish Your Authoritative Advantage

Keeping your authoritative advantage over your competition will be an never ending challenge.  You will find if something works well others will mimic it.  Your success won’t be immune.  You will need to perpetually hone your basic skills to give you the competitive edge that will allow you to maintain the upper hand you may have gained over your competition.  Be ever learning and innovative as you work at making your web business the best it can be.
